TESS LIGHT’s plays tend to incorporate any or all of the following: sarcasm, death, sarcastic death, Buddhism, foodism, poetry, song, and Shakespeare.
Distinctions include finalist for the Stanley Drama Award (2016; “Billy Joel Holds the Key to the Afterlife”), Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Conference semi-finalist (2015; “To Conceive Gods”); Theater Conspiracy (2012 winner) and Stage West (2013 2nd place) new play contests (“Tower of Magic”); and the Arts & Letters Prize for Drama winner (2015, “Expectant Pause”) and finalist (2013, “The Last Days of Wonder”). Her short plays have been produced as far afield as Australia, Mexico, (“Shimmer”) and Ireland (“Escaping the Funhouse”). After a peripatetic youth starting in Chicago and moving through eight cities in four countries, Tess settled in Los Alamos, New Mexico with her family, where she works as a physicist at Los Alamos National Laboratory, in space science.
