SOFYA LEVITSKY-WEITZ is a 2018-2019 Jerome Fellow, an incoming Core Writer at the Playwrights’ Center and a member of EST/Youngblood.
Plays include this party sucks (2019 Kilroys List, New York Theatre Workshop development), Cannabis Passover (Playwrights’ Center Playlabs Fall 2019, Ensemble Studio Theatre), be mean to me (semi-finalist for Premiere Stages at Keane, IATI Theater), Intuitive Men (UCF’s Pegasus PlayLab, Williamstown, the Brick, the Tank), Gehinnom (semi-finalist for O’Neill Playwrights’ Conference, Playwrights’ Realm and Princess Grace Award), The Gleaming (commission, Steep Theatre, Chicago), and LADY (The Araca Project, semi-finalist Stage Left Residency.) Additional commissions from The Sloan Foundation and Chinatown Soup. Residencies at Barn Arts and TOFTE Lake. Short plays produced in the Red Bull Short Play Festival, Sam French Off-Off Broadway Festival, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Loading Dock Theatre, the Flea, Chicago Dramatists, Teatro Vista, and more. Finalist for the Heideman Award and published in The Kenyon Review, the 53rd State Press Occasional, & (twice) in The Dionysian. She’s the official annual playwriting judge for Hendrix College’s playwriting competition. Her (co-written) short film Rafter was funded by NutriBullet and she has written a feature for PaperChase productions. Most recently, she worked as a research and writing assistant on the development of an Untitled Joan Didion miniseries created by Sarah Gubbins, produced by Big Beach productions and Hulu and is currently assisting Michael Showalter with a feature about Tammy Bakker for Fox Searchlight.
