    SHELA XOREGOS directs and choreographs neglected classics and plays and concerts by living playwrights, composers and choreographers. She also stages early American dances by Charles Weidman, Ruth St. Denis, others. 

    Recent productions include the Chinese operetta Romance of the Western Chamber, Jean Racine's Britannicus (both translated by Howard Rubenstein), and a number forgotten one-acts from the Harlem Renaissance. 

    She has directed for many New York and regional theaters as well as outdoor festivals. Her productions of dance and theater have been shown at the Smithsonian Institution in D.C., MoMA SF, Palace of the Legion of Honor Museum, others. 

    Outdoor concerts include the Mt. Tamalpais Amphitheater, Hollywood Bowl, Santa Barbara Bowl, Stern Grove and Central Park. In 2019, she premiered Arnold Schulman's play, Sign in the Six O'Clock Sky, with songs composed by Dan Furman. 

    Next, she produces and directs Grace Cavalieri's Quilting the Sun, a play about folk artist Harriet Powers.
