Mellie Katakalos is a scenic designer specializing in new works who has designed over 100 productions, 30 of which were world premieres.
Selected credits - NYC: HERE, La Mama, 45th Street, and the Triad. West coast: La Jolla Playhouse, SF Mime Troupe, SF Playhouse, Calshakes, Marin Theatre, Theatreworks, and Cornerstone. Philadelphia: InterAct, Shakespeare in Clark Park, Prince. Her designs and devised works have been seen at The Beijing International Fringe and the Singapore International Fringe. She is the director of the New Play Design Lab at the Playwrights Foundation (SF), and is a co-founder of Crowded Fire Theater Company and 2by4 (SF). Among her many nominations and awards are two San Diego Playbill Awards, two Bay Area Critics Circle nominations, a Barrymore Award nomination and the honor of Best Set Designer from The East Bay Express.
