MELANIE ARMER is a bi-coastal theater director who specializes in hybrid performance, ensemble based theater and large scale immersive events. She has a keen interest in new works and re-imagining the classics. Her style is strongly visual and movement based. She is co-founder of The Nerve Tank and has directed all their shows since 2005. She received a nomination for Excellence in choreography from the Indie Theater awards for 'The Maiden' presented by The Nerve Tank in association with La Mama E.T.C. She helmed 2 commissioned pieces for Arts Brookfield; 'The Attendants' for The Winter Garden and 'Glory Road' for Grace Plaza in NYC, then re-imagined a version of The Attendants for presentation on their digital platform during the 2020 pandemic. Regionally her work includes an immersive Hamlet which she adapted for Rebels and Misfits Productions, Twelfth Night which she adapted for 5 LIU Post MFA students and UBU ROI for their Undergraduates. She is a proud alumnus of the Lincoln Center Directors Lab and Directors Lab West and was interim Artistic Director of the New Circle Theatre Company for 2 years where she directed many readings, workshops and productions.
