MAUREEN FREEDMAN: Known for her eclectic outlook and broad range of work including theatre, opera, dance and object theatre, scenic and costume designer Maureen Freedman designs stories that humanize and dignify those to whom they belong.
Born in South Africa, raised in Israel, with pit stops in the UK and Australia, Maureen has made NY home. Notable work includes The Exalted at BAM, The Wolves at the Window at 59e59, Pirandello: Raison D’etre headed for Off-Broadway next year, Intimate Apparel for CT Rep (SILV award for design excellence, NAPAT award for scenic design, analyzed and published in ‘A Critical Companion to Lynn Nottage’ by Routledge). International work includes The Boat is Sinking (Fringe First award, Israel), The House by the Lake (touring), Silence Makes Perfect (UK), and upcoming Burning Blue (Norway). Maureen is also a NYFA IAP fellow collaborating with writer Meg Kaizu (Japan) to discuss intersections of word and visual arts. |
