KIM D. SHERMAN composes works for the concert stage, theater and opera. She embraces lyricism and dissonance as equal partners in conveying dramatic musical landscapes.
In 2019, THE CLARA CYCLE, (Soprano, Violin, Piano) premiered at Steinway Hall, NYC. SUMMER, 1976 (Lyric Baritone, String Quartet) premiered at The Opera Center in 2016. SONG OF SONGS, (Strings, Harp, Soprano) premiered in 2004 by San José Chamber Orchestra. GRAVESIDE, (A Cappella Chorus) was recorded by Musica Sacra. Opera and Musical Theater works include ADA, LOVE’S COMEDY, HEARTLAND, O PIONEERS!, HONOR SONG FOR CRAZY HORSE, and THE TWO ORPHANS. She has written incidental music for many regional theaters throughout the United States. Ms. Sherman studied music at Lawrence University, and composition with Thea Musgrave. She has enjoyed residencies at The MacDowell Colony and The Banff Centre. A New Yorker since 1983, she is a regular volunteer composer and mentor for The 52nd Street Project. AFFILIATIONS
