ALLISON BENKO is a director of plays, musical theatre, and opera known for her rich storytelling, keen psychological insight, and technical precision. A writer herself, she has extensive experience in the development of new work.
Productions that have premiered in New York under her direction include Single Rider (Players Theatre), What Happened That Night (Project Y's WiT Festival), The End of Mermaids (Corkscrew Theatre Festival), and A Doll's House, A New Opera (The Tank – developmental). Her current writing projects include Another Mikado, which was commissioned by the Ridgewood Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Company, and will premiere this fall. Notable assistant direction includes Oslo at Lincoln Center Theater, which received the Tony for Best Play. She has also studied ritualistic shadow puppetry at the Tholpavakoothu Puppet Centre in Kerala, India. She is a member of the Lincoln Center Directors Lab, and holds a B.A. in Drama from Tufts University. |
